Japan Topix Advances as Higher Oil Prices Lift Trading Firms

Japan’s Topix gains as higher crude oil prices boost trading companies and mining-related firms, while defensive buying supports demand for drugmakers and gas companies.

Topix rose 0.1% to 2,695.83 as of 9:26 a.m. Tokyo time.

Nikkei 225 declined 0.1% to 38,319.10.

Recruit Holdings contributed the most to the Topix’s gain, increasing 2.3%. Out of 2,132 stocks in the index, 1,173 rose and 786 fell, while 173 were unchanged.

West Texas Intermediate traded below $76 a barrel after a 1.9% gain in the previous session. A revision in US data showed the world’s largest economy growing at a slightly stronger pace in the second quarter than initially reported.
